Rowing a complete sport good for legs and head

Open water rowing is an all-body sport : it involves every large muscle group in the body, it improves one’s endurance and relieves stress. A means to healthier living and positive wellbeing.

Rowing is recognized as a complete cardiovascular workout. It’s one of the few sports that exercises all the major muscle groups including quads, biceps, triceps, lats, gluteals and abdominal muscles used at the different stages of the stroke in order to propel, balance and stir the shell.  Rowing a complete sport !

Because rowing uses 90% of the major muscle groups, it burns calories quickly, making the workout a must (up to 800 kcal per hour) if you want to lose weight, tone up, get fitter and build your stamina. The rowing stroke also improves your flexibility, your balance and coordination.

Another asset of outdoors’ rowing : it is a low impact, non-weight bearing activity and hence it does not put unnecessary stress on the joints (usually associated with aerobic activities).

Rowing is an Olympic discipline, but it is also a perfect physical activity at any age to keep in shape, lose weight, cross-train for another sport and relieve stress. Learning the skill of rowing is progressive, the intensity of a rowing session will be adapted to your skills and athletic abilities.

Moreover, the benefits of rowing are not only visible – strong, defined arms,  slender thighs, strong abs, they are also internal.

As a regular physical activity, it is the perfect cardio vascular exercise as Dr Christian Palierne, doctor for the French Rowing Federation confirms it :

«Rowing is nearly a complete sport from a muscular standpoint as almost all muscle groups are involved : upper and lower limbs muscles, abdominal and lumbar muscles, etc. An enduranc e sport, rowing provides only benefits for the cardio-vascular system : it regulates or lowers blood pressure, lowers the heart rate and improves the energy output».

In addition to the physical benefits, rowing provides the pleasure of gliding across the water in an outdoor recreational activity. Many rowers enjoy the opportunity to connect to the calm and quiet of the water which relieves stress and anxiety.
